Summer 2005 B1 League Awards
Another successful B1 league here at CRFC as we had yet another innovation and split the leagues into East and West divisions and had the winner of each play or the title. The Silly Johnsons won the unification battle over Momenta, we got a few new big men in the gym, and we had what I think was the most competitive B league yet. Great fun and another great season had by all. Well, maybe not all, but at least most. – WOLVERINE

Most Valuable Player
| East: Ed Finn, Momenta – The best shooter in the league, maybe even the gym, doesn’t just sit outside and take jumpers all game. He plays aggressive defense, takes charges, and drives into the lane without fear knowing that he is going to get hammered. No doubt in my mind he was the MVP of this league and just like David Ortiz, if he didn’t get it, there shouldn’t even be an award (and I am not even a Red Sox fan). By the way, I am not sure what I am raving about here, I am the only one who votes on this stuff…
West: Raj Singh, Asian Invasion – Raj has been around for a while, but this season he decided to help carry the Invasion to a surprising 6-2 regular season. His post play, rebounding and defense has never been questioned at CRFC, and this season was no different.
|
General Manager of the Year | .
East: Jonathan Mozenter, Karma Police – Never doubt the importance of a good manager no matter what anyone tells you. Prof took the 7th and last seeded team into the B1 Finals with masterful team chemistry and talent. Yet another example of the Prof’s managing prowess.
West: Godfrey Chua, Asian Invasion – Godfrey assembled a very nice squad that turned out even better than expected, despite the early playoff exit. A guy with 4 CRFC titles under his belt and now a GM of the year. Not much more room in his trophy case.
|
Defensive Player of the Year
| East: Jeff Hrkach, Momenta – This could go really to the entire Momenta team, but I think Jeff epitomizes the defensive tenacity that has helped garner all the success Momenta has had at CRFC. He is typically outsized by his opponent, but that doesn’t stop him from stealing, blocking and just playing great defense night in and night out.
West: Cullen Roberts, Silky Johnson – Cullen is widely known as a great shot blocker in the gym with his graceful blocks. And the best thing about it is that he never says a word. C’mon Cullen, at least give a finger wag once in a while.
|
Rookie of the Year
| East: Bob Muse, Genzyme –A dominating inside presence combined with a soft 12 foot jumper made Muse one of the most feared big men in the league. More to come next season I am sure.
West: Adam O’Connor, Silly Johnson – CRFC always welcomes new big men and Adam O’Connor is no different. Despite some attendance problems, Adam emerged as a legit big man with both inside and outside games.
|
Wolverine's Award
| East: John Masso, Momenta – With Finn and Hrkach on your team, your game may often times be overlooked. But this season Masso emerged as a legit scoring threat in addition to being a leader on the break. Finally some recognition for this guy.
West: Ian Whitney, Doobie Brothers – Ian has a few titles at CRFC and always shows up with enthusiasm and good natured complaining. And his game has much improved since his 1st league at CRFC and can now be relied on for 8 or 10 points a game.
