Spring 2005 B2 League Awards
This league had a little bit of everything. Some new nicknames (The Iceman, The Waterbug), Momenta’s 1st loss ever, and the birth of Fama PR’s now legendary full uniforms. A much more competitive league than I had anticipated with teams like Ruckus and Ripcord showing the intensity and tenacity of a bulldog and the excitement of a puppy. A very fun league to watch and hope to see you all back next season. – WOLVERINE

Most Valuable Player
“Mr. Everything” Jeff Hrkach, Momenta
| A league MVP that averages only 10 points a game? That’s right. If you have ever seen this guy play or had the opportunity to play with him, you already know why. Like his nickname states, he does it all - he is a great rebounder, a tremendous passer, and routinely guards the biggest guy on the other team and manages 3.5 steals a game. Not only that, he is the team leader of the 1st place Momenta team. There shouldn’t be any argument about this one, and if there is, well, too bad because I pick the awards. |
CO General Manager of the Year
Ian Whitney, Viacord
| Ian Whitney, Viacord – Believe it or not, the GM’s were picked before the playoffs started and it just so happened that each team won its title. Ian managed to put together a fine squad that got him his 2nd CRFC title in 3 seasons. That is as many as I have in about 100 season’s! Great work by Ian and I look forward to seeing his squad next season. |
Chris “Magic Man” Louis, Ruckus
| Chris “Magic Man” Louis, Ruckus – In a whirlwind season for Ruckus, Louis managed to keep his team in check and win the championship. A very talented team that although it gets caught up emotionally, it is this emotion that drives these guys and it’s great to have them in the league. This team kept me awake at 9:15PM on many nights. |
Defensive Player of the Year
Jean “The Iceman” Cadet, Ripcord
| | When you play aggressive defense, you are bound to get some fouls called on you (and maybe some techs as well). But that is a great trade-off for a guy who was 3rd in steals and 3rd in blocked shots this season. Week in and week out The Iceman played hard on both ends of the floor and was the key to his team’s success. |
Rookie of the Year
Brian Merrill, Fama Bacon |
When I first saw him play, I thought he was just a solid low post player. But little did I know that he actually has one of the best three point shots on the league. With this combination, he is very tough to guard and was the main man on a very fun Fama Bacon team that gave Ruckus a very memorable playoff scare. |
Wolverine's Award Ken Thompson, ALS-TDF and Eiu Kim, Biogen
| | Ken Thompson, ALS-TDF and Eiu Kim, Biogen – Two great guys who embody what this league is all about – fun! Ken has been in this league since its inception and I am still waiting for him to complain about just one of my calls – and it’s not because I haven’t made any bad ones either! He is also a regular double/ double man on the emerging ALS squad. Eiu on the other hand is new to the league, but I am not sure I have seen him stop smiling or yapping yet. He usually starts off scoring his teams first 10 points and then spends the rest of the game distributing the ball to his teammates. |
