Full Tilt Rides Defense to claim the Stick!

Full Tilt turned on the defensive pressure last night and completely ran over the boys from Scot Pollard. I thought that the B1 East rep was going to give these guys a game, but when FT is focused and when they don't take anything for granted, these guys can flat out play. They limited Scot Pollard to just 5 of 26 shooting from beyond the arc, and it didn't get any easier when they stepped inside. Playoff MVP Jimmie Guinther (20 points, 9 boards, 6 assists) hounded the Born Gamer (13 points) all night long. He didn't just save his energy for offense, which he had plenty of, but picked up his man as soon as he was across half court. Until garbage time, he held JaySar to just 4 points and 0-7 shooting from beyond the arc, completely taking him out of the Pollard offense. Without JaySar running the show, they fell behind 31-12 the first 10 minutes of the game and looked completely lost. Chris Wafula (16 points) and TGun (9 points, 5 assists) were running the show and getting any shot they wanted. JD was all over the point, getting 4 dimes in the first half and playing solid D. Full Tilt was dominating the boards and looking like they were going to cruise to a win.

It took until after halftime for Pollard to get into a groove, but they never got closer than 9 points. The Silent Assassin woke up and dropped 25, but even he struggled from downtown (1-8). Chris O finally found his jumper (11 points) as they started chipping away at the deficit. But when Dan O (6 points) left in the middle stages of the second half, it was all down hill (again) from there. The Pint had his fill and dropped 26 points to go along with his 14 rebounds and he was making a late charge at the MVP award. But for Jimmie's defense and offense both, I couldn't deny him. Congrats to Full Tilt on winning the Stick in their first ever C.A.C. league, they made it look pretty easy!

Final Four Write-Ups

The Firm 67 vs Scot Pollard 75

Kyle a Silent Assassin as Scot Pollard heads to B1 Finals

The Firm was so focused on taking away JaySar (18 points, 10 boards) that they let Chris O (12 points) kill them in the first half, and Kyle (37 points, 12 boards) absolutely destroy them in the second. Sure The Born Gamer was consistent throughout, but without the Silent Assassin backing him up, Scot Pollard wouldn't be advancing. Kyle certainly has calmed over the past couple seasons, and with his focus on just the game, rather than everything else, he's been playing his best ball. The Firm kept pace throughout this one as Josh Bruno (28 points) carried them on his back. The Rainmaker was on point, hitting 8 of 17 3s, and he was even more efficient before the end of the game when he was throwing up prayers. Despite the fact that Manny (6 points, 8 boards) was getting some quality coaching from his wife on the balcony, he wasn't his usually dominant self, especially after the eye injury. Really, she just wanted the boys to play a little defense, but apparently that would have required some effort. But Maddrey (13 points) and Justin (10 points, 6 assists) picked up his offensive slack, and the Firm had a 1 point lead with a few minutes to go. But a couple free throws by Dan O (6 points) and a huge 3 by Kyle on back to back possessions gave Scot Pollard control of the game. They hit more than enough free throws down the stretch (9-12) to keep The Firm at bay and move on to the B1 Unification Game Monday @ 8PM against Full Tilt! They're really going to hope that Matt, aka the Freak and the East's Defensive Player of the Year, is good to go. Full Tilt has a great offense when everyone is clicking, and they'll need Scabilia to shut down the paint against Wafula and the Pint.

Full Tilt 56 vs NEPC 48

Full Tilt on Verge of B1 Title!

The boys from Full Tilt jumped out to an early 17 point lead in this one, as they got to shoot on the 'good' rim in the first half. Wafule (18 points) and TGun (11 points) led the first half charge that saw them up big with Jimmie (14 points) on the bench. NEPC couldn't get anything to fall in the opening frame and were just determined not to let it get too out of hand. Despite the fact that they were down 32-16 at the break, they remained positive and focused. It's amazing what switching ends will do for you. Mark Lamberti (18 points, 16 boards) and Tom Waters (14 points) had huge second halves. Jamie McDonald (7 points, 3 steals) was creating a ton of turnovers that lead to easy buckets for his team. With Scott Perry (5 points) directing the offense, NEPC went on a 17-3 run in the first 8 minutes of the second half. They had their deficit down to just two points, and it looked like they were ready to strike back. But Full Tilt woke up just in time to go on a 9-0 run that effectively put the game away. NEPC gave it a heck of a run in trying to come back, but fell just short in the end. Full Tilt will take on Scot Pollard in the B1 Unification Finals on Monday at 8PM
